Dear Members and fellow South Africans,

Every year on 18 July, South Africans together with the international community honour our former President and international icon Nelson Mandela in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. This day has since its launch in 2009 inspired individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.

This year, due to COVID-19, the number of people going hungry has grown catastrophically and continues to increase.  Against this background of deepening patterns of poverty and inequality the Nelson Mandela Foundation has urged everyone to take action and play their part in the COVID-19 #Each1Feed1 campaign. In support of this campaign, the South African Embassy called upon all South Africans and friends of South Africa in Thailand to partner with them on this campaign by donating non-perishable food items and masks to be given to orphanages in need.

On the 16th of July, the Embassy distributed all the donations received to the Orphanages Foundation of Thailand, from where they will be distributed to those in need.

The Embassy, and the SATCC, would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to this event for fulfilling Mandela’s inspiration to become an instrument of change and support the less fortunate within our communities.

Have a blessed day and make every day a Nelson Mandela Day.
